Step back with us to a time of gracious hospitality in
our turn of the century brick American Four Square manor home.
Enjoy rich oak woodwork, original gasoliers, and period
furnishings from an era gone by.
Read, or just relax by the fireplace in the comfortable
and well appointed parlor. Play a friendly game of cards or Scrabble; or
watch TV or a videotape in the upstairs sitting room. Or perhaps
you'd rather enjoy our beautiful gardens or lounge on the spacious porch
spanning the length of the house, and furnished with comfortable wicker
furniture.
Partake of a sumptuous three course breakfast by
candlelight in the elegant dining room, which includes an antique
fireplace to warm a chilly morning. Breakfast includes juice, fresh
fruit, delicious egg and pancake dishes; as well as a sampling of fine
cheeses from local producers and homemade breads. Your favorite
beverages are also served.
Rooms:
There are four guest rooms at Oak Hill Manor to enchant
you. Each room is unique; and each is spacious, bright and airy. One of
the key features of American Foursquare architecture is that all of the
"living" rooms in the house are at a corner. Each of the guest
rooms, The Albany Room, The Hearth Room, The Lewis Room and The Oak Hill
Room enjoys light and ventilation from two sides. Each is individually
air conditioned, and each has its own private bath. Antique reproduction
radios with integral tape players are present in each room, and a
selection of soft music is available for your enjoyment.
The Albany Room:
- A queen-size wrought iron canopy bed with hand
crocheted fishnet top and lace drapes is the centerpiece of The
Albany Room. View the village of Albany through the crocheted
curtained windows, while relaxing on the comfortable loveseat and
daydreaming of yesteryear. A vintage dressing table adds to the
romance; an antique table and crystal lamps create the finishing
touch. The private bath is complete with shower.
The Hearth Room:
- A five foot high, iron and brass head board tops the
queen-size bed in The Hearth Room. Curl up and relax on the
comfortable loveseat which sits in front of the antique fireplace
and read a book or just enjoy the view of the lush gardens framed by
original window treatments dating from the turn of the century.
Birdseye maple furniture, and a private bath with tub and shower
complete the appointments for this popular room.
The Lewis Room:
- Awake to sunshine in the queen-size ornate wood
poster bed. Sit and relax on the comfortable loveseat. It is nestled
in the bay window which looks out on the same view enjoyed by the
original owner of the home, whose master bedroom this was, and for
whom the room is named. Set off in their own alcove, The Lewis Room
and its private bath, complete with original ball and claw foot
bathtub, hearken back to a more gracious time. This is the room
enjoyed by the current owners who were guests when they decided to
buy the Manor.
The Oak Hill Room:
- Almost six feet tall, the massive brass and iron bed
sets the tone for The Oak Hill Room. An antique curved-front dresser
and mirror from the turn of the century, and the over stuffed chair
invite you to relax. Overlook the gardens and the hill for which the
manor house is named from your private, heated and enclosed porch
complete with wicker furniture and a day bed. Spacious and airy,
this room is complete with a private bath.
Additional Notes:
All guest rooms are located on the second floor of the
Manor. Also on this floor is a quaint guest sitting room. A TV with VCR,
and a selection of videotapes are located in front of the comfortable
loveseat and rocker. Also in the sitting room you will find a guest
refrigerator stocked with ice, just waiting for your cold beverages.
On the first floor of the Manor a large and comfortable
old fashioned Parlor is reserved for guest use. A magnificently carved
hearth surrounds the warm and inviting fireplace. Relaxing chairs, and
functional lighting make this a wonderful spot for curling up with a
book or for playing a sociable game of cards with your partner. If you
prefer, a television is also available for watching the evening or
morning news or just to catch up on your favorite "Soap". A
piano graces a corner of the room, and guests are encouraged to
"tickle the ivories" for their own enjoyment, or for the
enjoyment of the owners and other guests. Music brings Oak Hill Manor
alive!
