Braemar on Parliament Street is a unique bed and breakfast
establishment, being the only Edwardian townhouse in the Auckland
central business district still used as a residence.
Built in 1901, it has been lovingly restored but with the addition of
up to the minute technology for comfort and convenience.
It's the title shot in Geoff Murphy's Kiwi classic movie
"Goodbye Pork Pie". Our Kauri staircase dazzled in Don
Selwyn's beautiful film "Maori Merchant of Venice". Where
flyer Jean Batten's father Fred had his apartment upstairs is now our
main guest suite.
The richly furnished huge front parlour can be a theatrette with its
video projector and Hi-Fi sound system. Sky digital is available on all
the house TV's and can be controlled by the guest's own Sky remote in
any room.
Braemar is a smoke free environment and fire safety is assured by an
active fire detection system connected to the central fire station. We
can valet park guests' cars in our own parking area and broadband
Internet is available.
Being located in the Auckland CBD means that cinemas, theatres, cafes
and restaurants are all just a short walk away.
Your hosts have owned Braemar since 1994 and have fully restored and
renovated the house including bringing the latest technology into the
house. Braemar is situated in a heritage residential precinct in the
heart of Auckland city and is in a tree lined street just 200 yards from
a beautiful park. It is within close walking distance of the beautiful
Auckland Domain, another large parkland which hosts concerts in the
summer and has sports grounds and tearooms. Being so close to the heart
of the city yet so close to the parks and city beaches makes Braemar a
unique bed and breakfast choice.
Guest Rooms:
Upstairs in the "Batten Suite", a guest suite of three
rooms, the bedroom is furnished with antique furniture and a queen size
"posturepaedic" bed, separate tiled shower and toilet.
The third room in the suite is a private lounge with heritage open
fireplace, the couch folding out to sleep two when required. We also
have two guest rooms that share the original big bathroom.
All guestrooms have internet access. All our bathrooms have restored
old style large clawfoot baths and separate stand alone tiled showers,
served by continuous hot water gas burners. Heat lamps warm these areas
as fans extract the steam. All toiletries are complimentary and we
endeavour to offer the finest New Zealand made products available.
Batten Suite:
The Batten suite is named after Fred Batten, the father of New
Zealand's own flying ace, Jean Batten. Fred Batten lived here for 40
years when the house was in apartments and part of the Courtville
apartment complex.
Experience the prestige privacy of a large double bedroom with full
ensuite facilities and a private lounge. Ideal for a small group,
guests who have guests and small families.
Prestige double room at the front of the house with queen size bed,
luxury ensuite and a private lounge that can be converted into a
bedroom. Suitable for a small group or extra guests.
When you need to relax, stretch out and experience our large bath.
Beautifully refitted with modern technology and faithfully restored
comfort. Enjoy an aromatic and therapeutic spa in a stately manner, or
enjoy a lovely hot shower.

deck. We can cater for any taste and any special dietary needs. Just let
us know when you book so that we can prepare you a menu. All of our
